Rectifying injustices.

Someone once told me that if you – in order to rectify injustices and to treat all people fairly – withhold certain advantages from someone who has benefited from it in the past, it will result in the privileged person feeling as if he/she is treated unfairly.

This made me think a lot about South Africa and our role in reconciliation. It is a LONG, HARD road ahead. Especially for leaders of people who were previously privileged. We need a lot of wisdom when communicating our responsibility for restitution and social justice.

I am afraid though, that the current government’s gross negligence and corruption spree makes it a lot harder to “sell the idea” of restitution. The fact is that we could have been further down the road, had it not been for the current incompetent leaders…
